Installation
The installation of a public playground is a complex process that requires care, precision and compliance with regulations. The first phase involves preparation of the ground, including any excavation and levelling work. This is followed by the positioning of the play structures, following assembly procedures in compliance with European safety standards. A key element is the provision of adequate anti-trauma surfaces to protect children from falling. Prior to delivery and opening to the public, rigorous checks and final tests are carried out to verify the full functionality and safety of the entire area.
Professional installation
The construction of a playground requires professional management of the entire project, from the preliminary phase to commissioning. Proper planning includes evaluating the site, tailoring the design to the available space and community needs, and removing any existing structures. An integrated approach to installation management allows for on-time delivery, cost containment and high standards of quality and safety. The end result is a stimulating, safe and inclusive environment that provides meaningful and lasting play experiences for all children.
Assembly instructions
Each piece of play equipment is accompanied by detailed assembly instructions, which must be followed precisely. All components are clearly numbered to facilitate identification and assembly. The instructions include explanatory drawings regarding the connection of supporting structures, the assembly of panels, walls, roofs and all elements such as poles, slides, suspension bridges, steps and nets. It is essential to read the instructions carefully before assembly and to strictly observe the minimum safety distances indicated. Installation must only take place on site and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
During assembly, it must be ensured that the vertical elements are perfectly vertical and the horizontal elements perfectly level. Any misalignment could compromise the safety of the game. Failure to comply with the safety zone instructions may result in direct liability for damage or injury.
Preparation of the area
Before the installation of new play equipment, it is essential to check for the presence of any pre-existing structures in the designated area. These must be removed in advance, an operation that may be part of the initial earthworks. The intervention of a professional installation team is recommended to ensure that all operations are carried out in accordance with safety regulations. Comprehensive and organised management of the installation project is crucial to the creation of a safe, functional and durable playground.
Foundations
Generally, play structures are installed on underground foundations. Alternatively, it is possible to opt for surface mounting: in this case, the choice must be communicated when ordering products. In any case, the equipment must be firmly anchored to the ground. Some models require specific anchoring systems, which are available as additional accessories. The assembly instructions contain all technical specifications for the construction of the foundation, including any requirements for the use of concrete.
Safety Surfaces
According to the current EN standards, equipment must be installed on surfaces capable of absorbing impact in the event of a fall, in relation to the height of the structure. The most common solutions include:
- Sand (grain size 0.2-2 mm)
- Gravel (2-8 mm)
- Recycled rubber shock-absorbing tiles
- Natural grass (only for equipment with a fall height of less than 1 m)
The thickness of the cushioning layer generally varies between 25 and 40 cm. In addition to the impact area, a safety zone of at least 150 cm around all accessible parts of the playground must be ensured. It is important to consider that depending on the country of installation, there may be specific regulations prohibiting rigid or hazardous materials within this area.

Pozza, equipment and games for public playgrounds.
For more than 70 years, Pozza has been among the leading companies in the design and manufacturing of park games and public playground equipment in Italy. For its games and play structures dedicated to children, certified materials such as wood, aluminum, steel and recycled plastic are used, in line with the highest standards of environmental sustainability.
We design sustainable playgrounds, we build and install outdoor play structures and games for public and municipal playgrounds: themed play areas and complete thematic playgrounds, inclusive playgrounds and inclusive playground equipment designed to be also accessible to people with motor disabilities (such as wheelchair users), fitness sports areas for calisthenics and agility dog, health paths, spring riders and swings, slides, ziplines and structures with nets and paths, interactive tactile and sensory games and tunnels, up to the production of the photovoltaic playground (able to remain independently illuminated at night), and urban furniture such as tables, benches, bulletin boards, and fences. We produce anti-trauma flooring and rubber cast-in-place flooring for playgrounds.
